Ballaké Sissoko and Vincent Ségal - Chamber Music Fusion
"Chamber Music is a collaboration between Ballaké Sissoko, who plays the traditional kora, a lute-harp from Mali, and Vincent Ségal, the French cellist who plays for the trip-hop band Bumcello. It is also, quite simply, one of the most elegant and beautiful recordings of "world music" in recent years. At a time when cross-cultural music has tended toward highly-caffeinated electric pop and dance music, Sissoko and Ségal remind us that there is room -- and maybe even a need -- for a quieter, more refined world music. Both musicians have displayed an aptitude for defying expectations -- the list of trip-hop cellists is pretty short, after all. And Ballaké Sissoko has become a familiar name on the world music scene through his work with American blues legend Taj Mahal and Italian minimalist Ludovico Einaudi, among others. But perhaps the combination of kora and cello works so well because there are no expectations for it. The collaboration grew out of a personal friendship, and at no point was there an attempt to produce a record that would be slick and hip and commercial. Yet it has become one of Europe's most buzzed-about world music recordings in the past year."

Latcho Drom - Balada Conducatorolui

Latcho Drom es una película documental francesa de 1993 dirigida por Tony Gatlif.1 El documental sigue, principalmente a través de la músicay la danza, al pueblo gitano desde sus orígenes en el noroeste de India hasta España. (fuente: Wikipedia)
Taraf de Haïdouks es un conjunto musical romaní, originario de la comuna de Clejani, del distrito Giurgiu (judeţ) en Rumania. Es el grupo más célebre del género en la era post-comunista.
Son conocidos en su Rumania natal como "Taraful Haiducilor". Su traducción cuasi-literal sería "Banda de los Hombres malvados o fuera de la ley", aunque "taraf" es también el nombre tradicional de un grupo de lăutari [1] (músicos gitanos de la tradición rumana).
La agrupación se formó en 1989, poco antes de la muerte del dictador Nicolae Ceauşescu, pero actualmente fueron descubiertos por el etnomusicólogo rumano Speranţa Rădulescu, quien primero los grabó en 1983 para el archivo del Instituto de Etnografía y Folklore. La formación original reunía cerca de 12 músicos; a veces suelen incluir algunos más, llegando a tener 30 artistas en sus filas. El primer encuentro serio con el mundo occidental se llevó a cabo gracias al etnomusicólogo suizo Laurent Aubert y los músicos belgas Stéphane Karo y Michel Winter.

Diego Stocco - Music from a Tree
In the garden of my house there's a tree with lots of randomly grown twigs. It looks odd and nice at the same time. One day I asked myself if I could create a piece of music with it.
To tune the tree I picked a fundamental note and tuned the twigs by trimming them with a pencil sharpener. I used two Røde NT6 and a NTG-2 as microphones, combined with a customized stethoscope.
I recorded the tracks live on a Pro Tools LE system. I didn't use any synthesizer or sampler to create or modify the sounds. All the sounds come from playing the tree, by bowing the twigs, shaking the leaves, playing rhythms on the cortex and so on.
